SOMArts Cultural Center presents Feast of Words: A Literary Potluck, a monthly potluck where writers and foodies come together to eat, write, and share.  Join co-hosts Lex Leifheit and Irina Zadov on the first Tuesday of each month.

April’s theme is “On the Shoulders of Giants” and features a reading by literary guest Kirya Traber, as well as culinary imporation from Chef Peter Jackson.  This month’s event will include a creative competition of on-the-spot writing inspired by the theme.  House opens at 6:30pm on Tuesday, April 5^st, 2011 and space is limited. Tickets are $10 in advance, $5 with a potluck dish, or $12 at the door and include refreshments and delicious eats. Cash bar.

This month’s literary guest is Kirya Traber, a nationally awarded spoken word artist. Her work has appeared before US Presidents, incarcerated convicts, and classrooms of kindergartners. She has toured the United States and Canada with the legendary queer girl literary road show, Sister Spit, and can be found in the pages of Other Tongues: Mixed Race Women Speak Out by Inanna Press, and her chapbook black chick. She currently works as the Arts in Education Program Manager of Youth Speaks Inc, and will attend graduate school in the fall for an MFA in acting.

Culinary guest Peter Jackson is the executive chef of Canvas Underground, a supperclub that aims to bring people together for great food and cool art in ever-changing venues. The collective is a part of the Ghetto Gourmet dining party network, which is continuing the Bay Area’s guerilla cooking tradition. Past Canvas Underground dinner parties have included a “Depression Dinner” and a four course meal in a foreclosed West Oakland Victorian. canvasunderground.wordpress.com
